How the Koh Samui ATV Parks Work

Where the bases are, and why that changes the length of your day.

  1. Book the Duration, Not the Operator

One, two, three and four-hour tours run the same trails at different depths. Decide how long you want to be on a quad first — the operator matters far less than the length once you have picked.

  2. Get Collected From Your Hotel

Almost every Koh Samui ATV tour includes island-wide pickup, usually about an hour before the ride starts. The base camps sit inland around Maenam, Lamai and Nathon, so the transfer is a real part of the day.

  3. Brief, Practise, Then Ride

You are fitted with a helmet, given a safety briefing and — at the better operators — a practice session on a training area. The quads are automatic: throttle and brake, no gears, no licence needed.

  4. Trails, Viewpoint, Waterfall, Back

The route climbs through coconut groves and rubber plantations to a mountain viewpoint. Longer tours add a temple, a waterfall swim and lunch. You finish muddy at the base camp and are driven home.

Who Actually Runs Koh Samui's ATV Tours?

Twelve names, four base areas, and what separates them beyond the marketing.

Koh Samui’s ATV parks sit inland, in four loose clusters, and which one you ride from changes the shape of your day more than any marketing copy does. A base on the Nathon side means a longer transfer from Chaweng and deeper mountain trails; a base up in the hills means you are on dirt within minutes.

Twelve operators currently sell quad or buggy tours on this island through GetYourGuide. Here is who they are, where they ride, and what actually separates them.

X Quad Samui — Maenam

Four listings, 283 reviews, 4.8 to 5.0. The premium end of the island’s market, operating since 2012 out of the Maenam area on the north coast, and the reason is the machine: a Yamaha 450cc automatic rather than the small utility quads most operators run. On a flat trail that is a modest difference; on a steep muddy climb it is the entire experience.

Everything is four hours with round-trip transfers and lunch at The 360 Jungle Route restaurant, plus water, soft drinks, beer and fruit at the end. They sell a solo rider version ($143), a driver-plus-passenger version ($225 for two), a buggy ($273 for two) and a beginner buggy ($196 for two). No waterfall swim on any of them.

Jungle Quad — Nathon side

Three listings, 28 reviews, 4.8 to 5.0. The waterfall specialists. Their base camp sits on the Nathon side where the jungle is thickest, and they are the only operator on Koh Samui that lists a waterfall swim as an inclusion rather than a seasonal maybe — on both the three-hour route ($106) and the four-hour Ultimate ($137).

They also carry the youngest passenger rule on the island (age 4), send every photo and video from your ride by WhatsApp, and run 4x4 safari-truck transfers island-wide including mountain villas. The trade is the transfer: pickup runs about an hour before the tour because the base is in the west.

Trail Blazers ATV — island-wide pickup

568 reviews at 4.8 — the second-highest review count on Koh Samui. One listing covers one, two or three hours ($71), which makes it the easiest operator to match to how much riding you actually want. The three-hour route reaches Tan Nim waterfall, the Khao Pom viewpoint, Wat Theepangkorn and a 360-degree panoramic restaurant, with lunch included.

Every option includes a briefing and a practice session, and the operator markets the tour as beginner-friendly in as many words. Drivers from 12.

Xplore ATV — the hills

5.0 from 131 reviews, the highest score on the island with over a hundred ratings behind it. One and two-hour options ($71 per group for one rider), from a base camp up in the hills so the trail starts almost immediately. Halfway stop with a cafe, a zipline and a waterfall. Eye protection is provided, which several operators exclude.

Two things to check: the hotel transfer is an optional add-on rather than included, and the price is quoted per group for one rider, so compare it on the real number.

Lexi Adventures — main beach areas

4.9 from 288 reviews. A two-hour premium small-group tour ($85) built around two things almost nobody else offers: a dedicated practice area, and riders sorted into groups by confidence and experience before the trail. Free action photos and video, a waterproof bag for your phone, snacks and water after the ride. Free pickup covers Chaweng, Bophut, Bangrak, Choeng Mon, Maenam and Lamai; outlying areas may carry a supplement.

Samui Quad Motor — island-wide

1,601 reviews at 4.7 — roughly three times the next-busiest operator, and the reason their tour is the island’s default answer. $55 for one or two hours with island-wide pickup, on Japanese-built automatic quads. Their listing is unusually direct about two things: the waterfall stop is seasonal, running roughly November to January, and the tour is not suitable for complete beginners.

Orange Wave — island-wide

4.9 from 64 reviews. A straightforward two-hour jungle safari at $67, the cheapest true two-hour ride on the island, and the only operator that publishes its group size: 15 quads maximum per trip with one guide to every four riders. The catch is the age rule — drivers must be 18, the strictest on Koh Samui.

Koh Tour — Lamai

4.7 from 38 reviews. A two-hour jungle, mountains and waterfalls tour ($92 per group for one rider) from a base camp in Lamai, with a choice of automatic or manual ATVs — the only operator offering manual machines. Waterfall stop is season-dependent.

The rest

Oh-Hoo run a two-hour ATV excursion ($88, 4.6 from 78) reaching Teepangkorn Temple, with drivers from 16 and passengers 8 to 16. Jungle 4x4 Safari run the island’s only genuinely private off-road day ($237 for two) — see private tours. Eco Ventures, Samui Zipline & Adventures and Backpacker Samui Travel each list a single combo or transfer-plus-option product with thinner review histories.

Note what is not here. Some operators you will see named in island round-ups — Green Mountain, Wild Action Samui, Samui X-Treme — do not currently appear in the GetYourGuide catalogue. That does not mean they do not exist; it means you cannot book them here, with free cancellation, before you arrive.

Which base area suits you?

Maenam if you want the premium machine and a half day with lunch. Nathon side if the waterfall swim is the point and you do not mind the transfer. Lamai if you are staying on the south-east coast and want a short journey. The hills if you want the island’s best rating and are happy to arrange your own way to the base.

What Riders Say About the Operators

"A full-throttle tour through the jungle. It was super, super cool."

Christoph Germany

"It was absolutely incredible! We loved every minute, and 2 hours was the perfect length with a nice break in the middle of the tour. We are so pleased with both our tour guide and Xplore ATV"

Saga Silja Emilia Sweden

"Our guide was a real treasure. We were lucky to have our own guide as a family, who adapted to our child's pace. At first, our son was still a bit hesitant, but he became more confident over time. Then the guide adjusted the routes, and so the whole thing became an extremely wild, awesome ride for everyone. Definitely recommended! The zip line was also awesome!"

Diana Germany

"The quad tour was AMAZING. I was alone because no one else had booked it, and it was incredibly fun. At first, I was afraid that 3 hours would be too much, but it was perfectly enough. If you tell the guide that you'd like to go faster, he'll do that too. It is definitely VERY action-packed, as you ride through the jungle, over rocks, potholes, steep hills... If you love action, this is the place to be, but otherwise the guide can also adapt to a slower pace. The guide also always offers to take photos and videos of you; the videos in particular were awesome. Everything worked out with the transport, and you get a free drink and fruit at the café. All in all, highly recommended!"

"Best guide very helpful, very friendly. They took good care of us and we would definitely recommend it. You should try it yourself!"

Carolin Germany

"Great activity!! The group was divided according to level, so we could really speed up as we wanted and have even more fun! The instructors are super friendly and have fun with you! We were able to stop for a drink and stop at different spots to take pictures. I recommend it."

Kevin Belgium

"It was absolutely one of our highlights! We were alone with a guide and were therefore able to really step on the gas (the guide adapts to your pace). The guide was very attentive and friendly. But you should definitely bring sunglasses. We would love to do another tour."

Rebecca Germany

"Wow! 5 out of 5 stars. It was fantastic. The guide was a very good man. He did everything. Simply great."

Ugur Germany
