About This Experience

If quads do not appeal — because you would rather sit side by side, because you want a roof over your head in the rain, or because there are four of you — this is the buggy equivalent of X Quad's ATV programme. Same Maenam start, same remote dirt tracks, same included lunch, different vehicle.

Three machines are available. The Z8 is the standard two-seat CFMOTO UTV. The Z10 is a larger, more comfortable two-seater for about 1,000 THB extra. The Z950 seats four and is the one families with children actually want, at about 3,000 THB extra — and it is the only vehicle on this comparison that takes a whole family in one unit.

One thing separates buggies from quads on Koh Samui and it is not comfort: a driving licence is required for the buggy and is not required for an ATV. If nobody in your party has a car licence with them, the buggy listings are closed to you and the ATV listings are not.

Good to Know & Caveats

• X Quad have been operating on Koh Samui since 2012 and run the tours out of the Maenam area, with round-trip hotel transfers included.
• Lunch, water, soft drinks, beer and fruit are all included — this is a half-day out rather than a ride with a snack.
• No alcohol or cannabis before or during the activity. The operator refuses riders who have been drinking.
• A GoPro mount and fixation are available if you want to film your own ride.
• Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure.
• A driving licence is required for the buggy. This is the single hard difference between buggies and ATVs on Koh Samui — quads do not need one.
• The four-seat Z950 is the only vehicle here that carries a family of four together.
